Bear Brook State Park

Bear Brook State Park in Allentown has been known to generations as a favorite swimming hole but it truly is so much more! Its nearly 10,000 acres provides plenty to do! - Click on any image for a larger photo.
The original structures were built in the 1930's by the Civilian Conservation Corps, and many still stand. This shelter is newer, available by reservation, and is a popular spot for weddings, company picnics and family gatherings. It has a wonderful fire place, an oversized cooking grill and a huge sink with running water.
The park has an excellent camping area well removed from the day use facilities. Campers have their own beach, playground, a camp store, a ball field and comfortable rest areas. Shown here is campsite #51.
The park is home to three museums: a Camping Museum, the Civilian Conservation Corp Museum and the Nature Center. Its always best to call ahead (603-485-9874) to verify their operating hours.
Bear Brook has excellent day use facilities too. There is a physical fitness course, a fly fishing pond, an archery course with targets and hiking trails. Snowmobiling and X-Country skiing are popular in the winter. A foot bridge on the archery course is shown here.
